Shower thought of the day:

16 02 2006

I take a shower every morning, which is not something that you need to know to live your life fully, I do realize. The reason I mention it is this: I do a little bit of my best thinking in the shower and ponder life’s meaning in there, a great feat in the morning for such a nocturnal lemur.

This morning’s debate was the following:

You know how people say, “I lied because I didn’t want to hurt her/your/his feelings?” I was pondering this idea and came up with the following query: Do you lie because you don’t want to hurt someone else’s feelings or because you don’t want to have to deal with the consequences and their reactions to your having hurt their feelings? Is it really altruistically inclined where you are just saving their emotional pain or do you not want to cause yourself the grief of handling how they react to what you’ve said?

Hmmm…

Anyone have any thoughts?

(My coworker looked at me and said, “I’ve never thought about it like that, actually. I think you may have something….And you think too much.” Meh.)
